IWC Portuguese

For many men, the idea of owning a chronological watch is quite appealing. Having a watch that favors function over style is handy, but when it comes to finding one that doesn’t make you cringe when you look at it can be almost impossible. Often times, the stereotype of chronological watches is true: they are big, they are bulky and they are often times very, very ugly. The idea of finding a watch that has all of the necessary accoutrements but in a traditional, formal watch style is unheard of. That is, until the introduction of the IWC Portuguese. The IWC Portuguese is truly a beautiful watch; a time piece appropriate for the most formal of occasions. But it is also a complete chronological watch, as well. It is a synthesis that most people would have thought impossible, but the master craftsman at IWC have not only attempted it, they have succeeded.

It shouldn’t really come as any surprise that IWC would discover how to make a chronological watch beautiful. No other company has been making chronological watches longer and no other company has pushed the envelope of what a simple watch could do more than IWC. Starting in 1868, IWC began leading the charge by showing the world that a watch could be more than just a way to tell time. They were one of the first companies to make water resistant and then water proof watches. But their innovation didn’t stop there. They continued to explore what a watch is capable of. They now make watches specially made for professional divers that can stand up to depths of 2000 feet. It sounds like science fiction, but at IWC, it is just another day at work. With the IWC Portuguese, the accomplishment might be even more impressive. Mention a chronological watch to any true watch coinsurer, and you’re likely to be met with a grimace. For many folks, the idea of wearing a bulky, heavy and ugly watch just so you can measure things other than time is seen as a chore. But with the IWC Portuguese, you get a thin, beautifully designed and even elegant time piece that still provides the additional function of a chronological watch. For most people, the idea of wearing a chronological watch to a formal event would be seen as the ultimate fashion faux pas. But with the IWC Portuguese, it would not only be acceptable, but welcomed.

The IWC Portuguese features the signature large, clear face that IWC is famous for. Other watch companies tend to obscure the face in the name of fashion, but the first rule of a chronological watch is practicality, and not being able to read your watch isn’t very practical.  The IWC Portuguese comes with either a brown leather band or a black leather band, depending on the model. And now, you can buy the IWC Portuguese at San Diego’s best jeweler, Leo Hamel. So if you are in the market for a watch that does it all and looks good doing it, check out the IWC Portuguese.
