The one thing we, at Leo Hamel Jewelers, did not need to add in our two locations this year was another watch brand. After all, with the outstanding timepiece collections currently in place and the tremendous appreciation and support granted to us by our watch-savvy customers, adding another watch brand this year was the furthest thing from my mind.
But then, I heard about a German brand of watches called "Glashutte Original" and everything changed. Hand-made automatic movements, swan-neck fine adjustments, blued screws, skeletonized rotor with 21-carat gold oscillation weight, this mythic German watch demanded my attention. I had to see it for myself.
So off I went to the extreme northern part of Germany; to the enchanting alpine village of Glashutte, to see for myself this small group of craftsmen and women, forging masterpieces out of raw materials. I discovered Glashutte Town, steeped in a rich and tumultuous history of silver mining, war, and watch-making since the 1850's. And it was the craft of watch making that allowed this German town to survive.
With a strict adherence to quality, an extraordinary work ethic, and passion for perfection, these artisans were not just producing watches to reveal the time of day ; rather, they were creating time pieces that would express something about their owners. I quickly discovered that the owner of a Glashutte watch becomes a small part of "their" history. These works of art are treasures to be worn on the wrist: rugged, beautiful, and timeless in style and form. They are uniquely special, a constant reminder that quality will always endure!
On my return flight home, I found myself restless. A seasoned traveler, I realized nevertheless that this small German village and its passionate people had affected me. I knew right then that the Glashutte Original watch-makers share the same values and commitment to quality in which Leo Hamel Fine Jewelers® believes. Both companies, although far apart geographically, are actually closely knit in our commitment to quality for our customers.
